Google ( (US-GOOG) ) 的企業文化是特別的，在其官網的公司理念介紹頁面上，條列了10項公司核心價值。在第2項裡，Google 明言要專注將一件事做到完美，而那件事就是「搜尋」。
現在來看這令人感到有些微妙，因為 Google 早就跨出投尋引擎範疇，觸角遍及作業系統、瀏覽器、郵件服務、雲端儲存、無人車等。但回想 2000 年，兩位公司創辦人 Larry Page、Sergey Brin 目光遠大，對於新科技將如何形塑世界已有想法，又怎會畫地自限只專注在網路搜尋上呢。
《紐約時報》報導，當初撰寫 Google 理念介紹的作者 Douglas Edwards 說，雖然文件是這樣寫，但 Larry Page 也心裡知道，這家公司未來不會只有如此。Edwards 在其回憶於 Google 工作的書中說，Page 對公司的期望一直都是像通用電氣 ( (US-GE) ) 那樣的企業，Google 這家公司只是第一步，而非最終目標。
Page 也在周一 (10日) 晚間為公司寫下新的里程碑：宣布組織重整、成立母公司 Alphabet，旗下各項事業均以子公司的方式運作，Google搜尋也成為其中之一。
公司成立早期，Page 在專注與擴張這兩個矛盾概念之中拉鋸。其公司理念闡述，新技術的誕生為了解決單一的大問題，而 Page 則不斷重申，他相信科技術快速發展出的專門技術，是為了應用於改善人類生活的各式各樣問題，他的信念為 Google 技術的多方嘗試、多方發展做出了解答。這也成了業界諷刺 Google 的笑話之一，他們說，「Google 專注於萬事萬物」。
不過，Google 新的組織架構解決了 Page 看似分歧的野望。藉著創造數家專注於不同目標的子公司，新的組織架構讓它們既能保持戰略上的集中，又能兼顧策略廣度。這還真的能讓 Page 實現「專注於萬事萬物」。
雖然 Google 市值早已被蘋果所超越，但其公司文化可說是奠定了矽谷的企業風格：以工程研發為主，鼓勵獲取更多經驗、有極高自由度去研究個人感興趣的主題，即使它們看似與公司任務不怎麼相關。
現已成為 Google 母公司的 Alphabet，將此種企業文化進一步推展，為科技業樹立新的典範。在宣布新組織架構的信件中，Page 表示，集團模式能給予他和 Brin 更大的管理格局，更有效率地運作無相關的獨立事項。至於是否如此？則有待觀察。
過去幾年當中，快速發展的科技深入人們生活許多角落，既方便又令人害怕。科技公司創業家們堅稱，包括醫療、交通、媒體、教育等現代生活各個層面，都將因運算技術及應用程式的精進而改善。Google 的新公司架構，或許就會為人們實現科技的烏托邦。
